Handover Night in Lawrence's Bar

Outgoing President, Ned O'Toole, handed over the chain of office to incoming President, Seamus King, at a very enjoyable function in Lawrence's Bar on Friday, July 2.
It was a night filled with nostalgia and expectation. President Ned had a second enjoyable duty to perform, to make a presentation to outgoing treasurer, Leslie Wallace, who decided to call it a day on the club's finances after 33 years.

Leslie took over as treasurer in 1977 from Joe Fahey and, as he said, 'the years just slipped by'. During all these years he was one of the most accessible of members, located for all financial transactions at Cashel Motor Works in Friar Street.
The President presented Leslie with a voucher and a bouquet of flowers for Jackie, who was unable to be present. Normally a man of few words, Leslie broke with tradition and made a speech, in which he thanked the members for all their help over the years.
Another officer calling it a day on the occasion was secretary, Dan Dillon, who had just completed seven years in the position. Dan is the only member of the club who attained the highest office in the District, that of District Governor.

It was time then to for Outgoing President to hand over the chain of office to Seamus King. After the chain was put in place Seamus said a few words in which he thanked Ned for his year in office, Leslie and Dan for their impressive service to the club over many years and he welcomed Richard O'Brien as the new secretary and Patricia Quirke as the new treasurer. He also thanked the members for conferring the honour of President on him for the third time, especially on the occasion of the fiftieth anniversary of the club. He looked forward to his year in office.
Earlier in the evening, Willie Fahey, paid tribute to the late Catherine McLoughlin, who passed away suddenly only recently. He praised her for her work for the club and expressed his sorrow on her tremendous loss to the club.
To Patricia Quirke was given the pleasant duty of making the flower presentations. She presented one bouquet to Margaret O'Toole and a second to Leslie for the absent Jackie.
