Seamus King is Longest Serving Member
Cashel Lions Club was privilaged to honour its most senior member at its Charter Night celebrations in Chez Hans. Lorrha man, Seamus J. King, first joined Cashel Lions Club in 1969 being proposed by Joe Savage. That year the President was Jack Rodgers, secretary Dan Devitt and treasurer Bill Gannon, and Cashel Lions Club were going from strength to strength having been founded on January 23rd, 1961. Seamus served as club secretary between 1972 and 1975, and in 1975 he represented Cashel as Zone Chairman. I 1976 he took over as President of Cashel Lions Club and had the great honour of becoming Deputy District Govenor in 1978-9. Through all his voluntary activities with the club, Seamus continued teaching at Rockwell College, and continues his publication of Tipperary GAA histories. Indeed, his piblication in 1984 of "Lorrha agus Doire 1884-1984, Iomaint agus Peil" was an outstanding achievement and it remains one of the best GAA histories ever produced. Ironically, current Cashel Lions President Richard O'Brien turns 40 this year: Seamus J. King has served Cashel and its wider community for that timespan and it was truly fitting to recognise his selfless commitment to Cashel for all this time. Cashel Lions Club looks forward to many more years working with Seamus. Congratulations and best wishes to Seamus and Margaret.
